NEWS RELEASE

AIG Irish Open Tennis Championship

Presented by DunLaoghaire County Council

Tennis Ireland are delighted to confirm that this year’s prestigious Irish Open Event is again being sponsored by title sponsor AIG, generously supported by DunLaoghaire Rathdown County Council and other category sponsors.

The event will take place at Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club from July 29th to August 4th.  Admission is free and entrants are promised a feast of international tennis at the South Dublin venue.

A top-class field is expected with prize money of $40,000 and valuable ranking points at stake during the ITF World Tennis Tour event.

Last year’s event (broadcast live on TG4) was very successful with Irishman Peter Bothwell winning the Men’s Title.   This year’s finals will also be broadcast live on TG4 from 3.30 p.m. on August 4th.

This year’s entrants include several leading Irish players so hopes of another strong Irish performance in both events are very high.

Ballygowan has come on board as official hydration partner for the event, joining other key sponsors Wilson, KOREC, Pinta Consulting and DLT Finance.

Richard Fahey (CEO of Tennis Ireland) said: “The generous support received from AIG, DLR CoCo and others enables us to showcase Irish and international tennis talent in a superb location.  We also appreciate DLR’s continued support for Parks Tennis and Enjoy Tennis, proving that tennis really is a sport for life.”

John Gillick (Head of Sponsorship, AIG) “AIG are delighted to be title sponsors of the AIG Irish Open Tennis Championships for the third year running.  Tennis is a great example of a sport that plays a leading role in promoting gender equality and our association fits perfectly with our #EffortIsEqual campaign.  We are looking forward to another top-class international event at a fantastic location”.

Cllr Shay Brennan, An Cathaoirleach,of Dun Laoghaire County Council added:  “I am delighted that such a high profile tournament is being again staged in the heart of Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown in the Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club. The Council are keen to play their part in supporting this fantastic tournament and promoting sport and activity for all. I would like to congratulate all the organisers of the event on their efforts and wish the competitors the very best of luck.”
