Blessed with lovely weather, the attendees were treated to some light refreshments, insightful speeches from the Cairndhu chairman Norman Black, the Chair of Rowing Ireland Offshore Committee Kieran Kerr, and Mrs Maureen Morrow, the Mayor of Mid & East Antrim Borough Council.
The club has been really busy with preparations with the last few months in the lead up to this outstanding event.
2017 saw Cairndhu RC be the first club on the Antrim coast, travel and compete at a World Coastal Rowing event in Thonon le Bains and also hosted the Ulster Championships at Ballygally before submitting their interest in hosting the 2019 Irish Offshore Rowing Championships.
On Sept 7th, crews from all over Munster, Ulster, Connaught, Leinster, Wales, Jersey, Channel Isles, and as far as the USA, will descend upon Ballygally to fight it out on the water for the most coveted positions. These crews will then have the opportunity to travel to the World Coastal Rowing Championships in Hong Kong in November.
Kieran Kerr, Chairman of Rowing Ireland Offshore Rowing said: Offshore rowing has exploded over the past two years. There is now an active and competitive domestic regatta calendar with the highlight being the Irish Offshore Rowing Championships. We look forward to Cairndhu hosting a great event.
